Animal Footsteps with the drum

This activity will help your child learn the variety of sounds you can get out of a drum when you change the rhythm, the speed, and the force with which you play it.

Let child call out an animal and then try to make the drum sound like the animals footsteps.

mouse-“scurry” fingertips on the drum

rabbit-make fingers “hop” on the drum

horse- pat a galloping rhythm on the drum

snake- glide one finger around on the drum

cat- use soft, slow taps
